Zhytomyr region harvested 235 kt of sugar beets
In Zhytomyr region, sugar season took place in conditions of a significant reduction in the sown areas. All sugar beet processing in the region is concentrated at the only operating factory, which is located in the village of Andrushky, Zhytomyr district.
This it reported by Regional State Administration.
This year, farmers in the region sowed only 4.8 thousand hectares of sugar beets. This is a significant reduction, since last season 6.7 thousand hectares were sown with beets (almost 2 thousand hectares less).
Despite the reduction in area, farms harvested 235.1 thousand tonnes of sweet roots, demonstrating high average yield of almost 49,5 t/ha.
The situation with the concentration of processing at one enterprise and the reduction in the sugar beet areas emphasizes the need to increase the resilience of region's agricultural sector in the face of economic challenges.
