Sugar production increased by 6,5%

In MY 2017/2018, Ukraine produced 2,14 million tonnes of sugar, which is 6,5% more than last year's 2,01 million tonnes.

Growth in production is associated with an increase in beet grown area and the launch of 4 more sugar refineries.

«The production season is completed. 46 sugar refineries produced 2,14 million tonnes of sugar, which is 6,5% more than last year. It should be noted that an increase in sugar production could be even greater, however, weather conditions during the growing season did not contribute to the increase in the sugar beet yield. As a result, we have lower indicators of sugar content and sugar output», — commented Ruslana Butylo, the leading speaker of «Sugar World 2018» and the head of analytical department of «Ukrsugar».

Vinnytsia region remained the leader in sugar production — 445,6 thousand tonnes of sugar produced. Khmelnytsk region took the second position and produced 290,2 thousand tonnes of sugar. Ternopil region took the third position with sugar production of 283,5 thousand tonnes.

In addition, it was possible to increase the production of the 1-st category sugar due to the planned sugar refineries modernization: «In MY 2017/2018, the production of the 1-st category sugar is increased to 50%, compared with last year's 30% in the overall structure of production», — explained Ruslana Butylo.

More information on the results of the production season and forecasts for the future sugar beet cultivation will be presented at the II International congress for sugar beet producers and processors — Sugar World 2018, which will take place on March, 1 at the shopping and leisure center «Terminal».
