Zgurivsk sugar refinery is the main processing enterprise of the district.

The first decision to build sugar refinery was made in 1910. Within three years, in 1913, it produced the first sugar. By that time, it had the capacity of 300 tonnes of sugar beet per day.

The company has rebuilt its production and increased the production capacity to 800 tonnes per day after the war.

The plant was twice reconstructed in the 1960s and in 2002. The capacity of the plant was increased to 2,500 tonnes of sugar beet per day.

The company produced 20,002 tonnes of sugar in the season of 2015-2016. The processing capacity of the plant was 2,1 thousand tonness of sugar beet per day.
